Here’s what we get wrong about the 8-hour workday:
Time is constant.
Capacity isn’t.
You can work the same eight hours, Monday through Friday,
and get completely different amounts of work done.
Same job.
Same brain.
Different capacity.
Some days you’re decisive.
Focused.
Getting things DONE.
Other days?
You answer a few emails.
Start something.
Switch tabs. Sit in what feels like a thousand meetings.
Reheat your coffee.
And by the end of the day, it’s like:
“What did I even do today?”
The hours were the same.
But resources weren’t.
🔥Tiny Rebellion
Name It To Measure It
At the start of the day, or even the week, ask:
“What kind of day or week do I anticipate this being?”
Bare minimum?
Show up. Handle what truly cannot wait. Let the rest breathe.
Steady?
Steady progress. Keeping things moving.
Momentum?
Focus is available. Tackle the biggest thing that requires it.
Then plan from there.
Not from your peak, but from your present.

Some days you’re resourced.
Some days you’re stretched.
When you adjust expectations to match the day you’re actually in, that’s self-regulation.
Think of it not as lowering the bar, but adjusting effort to match your bandwidth when and where you can.
